máquinas que se exibem + máquinas funcionando
Thu, 08 Jan 2009 06:03:54 -0800 by mruvru

The aim of this study is to discuss the machine in current art as a proposition for upcoming art. The machine in the age of computers and internet is the information machine. Before, heavy and monstruous, it now comes closer to the human being and becomes an idea, an abstraction, diagrams and numbers, a problem or poetry. This way we exhibit questioning and thoughts about the machine in art and make them function. The shape technology presents is work of the internal logic of techniques, but it can also be result of the artists imagination. Technology as an issue, object or idea is, to art, more important than its products. The artist, besides reflecting in his art what exists in the world, has the capacity to act in the world. The value of technological work of art doesnt reside in technology itself, but in the creative movements of art on technology. Thus, there is no superiority of an art that uses technology, regardless of its degree, over another that doesnt use it, even considering two existing discourses in present art which are opposite to a certain degree: the discourse of the so-called contemporary art that feels the absence of poetry or content in technological artwork, and that of technological art, which is put at a superior level in comparison to traditional art. Theres no artistic progress and theres no evolution of styles according to technological progress: in art theres no progress or regress, but creation, complexity, transformation and openness. In the same way that for the avant-garde art notions such as beauty, history and origin already didnt carry so much importance, current art is made from acceleration, accumulation and oblivion of works and artists, within increasing interconnectivity, presentification, saturation and complexity. The confusion about certain productions being or not art or something else daily life, science, politics, technology leads us to an issue: is there a limit or shouldnt there be an importance in the limit between two things when they are connected? Thats the reason why the concept of object has a wider meaning, as it is machine, sign, technical object and poetic image, always in state of connection. And consistent art, or a poetical project that is in accordance with our epoch, must be research: aesthetic and scientific.

Edo wonderland is a theme park where you can experience traditional Japanese culture and history. As part of this they put on stage shows reproducing events of the period. They pick on members of the audience and get them to participate. Unfortunately they saw me!I ended up looking a bit stupid but it was great fun!

WhoMadeWho - NYE party
Thu, 08 Jan 2009 05:26:31 -0800 by portofino

On December 4th WhoMadeWho did an unannounced New Years Eve show for their friends at the tiny Ritz club in Copenhagen. After a solid, traditional Danish Christmas dinner of herring, pork and schnapps they got a old-school Danish viking party vibe going. People were drinking, dancing and kissing everywhere. Our bass player Tomas girlfriend even broke her leg. Truly a night to remember !WhoMadeWho played live, great local DJs were playing, and we recorded the whole thing, so that you can now download and have WhoMadeWho play your New Years Eve house party!Listen to the WhoMadeWho NYE party mix on whomadewho.dk

686. The Albury Ram (Traditional Australian)
Thu, 08 Jan 2009 05:13:58 -0800 by raymondcrooke

This tall story is actually one of several Australian variants of the English song "The Derby Ram', also known as "The Darby Ram", "The Albany Ram" and "The Ram of Dalby." Some versions, including the one I do, are fairly close to a sea chanty in form. Many versions of the song have also found their way to America. Folksong collectors, Albert L. Lloyd and Bill Scott believed that it has its roots in pagan fertility ritual. A series of mummers plays are traditionally performed around Derby every year, the highlight of which is the symbolic slaying of the ram, played by a performer covered with a sack through which protrudes a broomstick with a ram's head impaled upon it. The butcher stabs it in the throat and a boy catches the blood in his bowl, an event which is referred to in many versions of the song. The suggestion is that this grew out of some earlier pagan sacrifice ritual.

Great thrash metal from 1989. This is off " Death Walks Behind You ".EnjoyLyrics:I pledge allegiance to the flag of the mighty USAI've closed my mind to any other wayWithout choice I'll fight your warsGive my life to save your shoresSo little do we ask of youA chance to live, can you come through[Chorus:]Pain t with propaganda for eyes that cannot seeA picture so self-righteous it's obsceneAmerica is number one, but what a nasty web we've spunHow will we ever get our fingers cleanCold & ancient arctic winds give way to winds of changePerhaps a final chance to ease some of the strainIf you'd forget about traditionAnd that stupid flag you waveYou might just save the worldWhile there's still a world to save[Chorus]Corrupti on![Bridge:]Without choice I'll fight your warsGive my life to save your shoresSo little do we ask of youA chance to live, can you come through
